Physical exhaustion is caused by depletion of this energy system?

Glycogen

Adenosine Triphosphate / Phosphocreatine

The main idea is that fatigue during ultra-short, maximal efforts comes from running out of the phosphagen system, which uses ATP and phosphocreatine stored in the muscles. These stores are extremely limited and provide immediate energy for very short bursts (think sprint-like efforts). Once those ATP and phosphocreatine reserves are depleted, you can’t maintain high power output, so exhaustion sets in quickly. The other substrates—glycogen and glucose for glycolysis, and fatty acids for longer, oxidative work—sustain energy over longer durations, but they don’t limit short, maximal efforts in the same immediate way.

Glucose

Fatty acids
